Why Are The iOS Features Not Available Everywhere?

Edited

Depending on what device you are using, you might have noticed, that not all iOS features are available on Android or Structured Web yet. This is mainly because Structured was an iOS-only app in the beginning.

In this article, we will tell you a little bit about Structured's history and explain how we are working on filling the feature availability gaps.

Timeline of Structured

Structured on iOS 🍎

Structured was launched as an iPhone app in April 2020, as a side project from our founder Leo, who is an iOS developer. As the Structured community grew, Structured received more and more features and became available on Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch as well.

Structured on Android πŸ€–

Over time, we received a lot of feedback from Android users, which is why we decided to also create an Android app. As it was difficult to bring a fully developed app from one operating system to an entirely different one, the initial Android version that was launched in November 2023 did not support all features known from iOS yet. Meanwhile, we have filled some of the gaps by introducing Structured Cloud sync and Widgets to Android.

Structured on Web 🌐

Since not all Structured Users have a Mac device, we decided to come up with a web-based version of Structured, to enable universal access to Structured. Structured Web was launched in August 2024 and is therefore our most recent Structured product. With the Structured Cloud sync, we enabled connecting Structured across all devices, regardless of the operating system.

Understanding Our Strategy

Our goal is to bring all iOS features to every Structured platform in the future. However, this comes with obstacles, including production capacity and resources, user feedback, and distribution platforms. As a result, we carefully prioritize development to ensure the best experience across all platforms.

Resources

We’re a small, independent team β€” not backed by a big tech company β€” which gives us the flexibility to shape Structured exactly how we envision it.

While we have a dedicated team of iOS developers, our Android and Structured Web teams are a bit smaller, with just one Android developer and one web developer. As a result, adding missing features takes time. However, both our Android and Structured Web developers are working at warp speed to catch up! πŸš€

User Feedback

We truly value user feedback and appreciate every suggestion we receive. That’s why we created our Roadmap β€” a platform that helps organize and track suggestions from our Feedback Board, keeping everything sorted by progress status.

With so many users having different priorities, it’s not always easy to satisfy everyone. Before implementing specific missing iOS features, we prioritized on bringing Structured everywhere and enabling cross-platform sync. Now, that the Structured Cloud sync is here, we're starting on adding missing iOS features on Android and Structured Web. Thereby, we're aiming to find the perfect balance between fast feasibility and the most requested user feedback.

Distribution

Every platform is different. One of the reasons many apps lag behind on Android is that building a sustainable business on the platform is more challenging than on iOS. Apple tends to offer stronger support for small developers, whereas Google's support may not always match the same level of effectiveness.
